The Honor State Bank was founded in 1917 when
they opened their first office in Honor, Michigan, on Henry Street.
The purpose then, as it is now, was to serve friends and neighbors
who live in the community—giving them an opportunity to
bank with people they knew. While much has changed since those
early days, the commitment to provide independent banking services
to their communities has remained the same.
With the exception of the “Bank Holiday” proclaimed
by Governor Comstock in February of 1933, The Honor State Bank
was the only local bank to remain open throughout the Great Depression.
They have continued uninterrupted service ever since.
In 1983 they opened their first branch in the Village
of Benzonia. Other offices followed with branches established
in the following communities.
